An engineering story
that began in Sri Lanka.
Electroteks grew from locally designed telecommunications equipment into voice, data, video and enterprise communication systems.
OUR BEGINNINGS
Ideas turned into infrastructure.
Founded by telecommunications engineer B. A. C. Abeywardana, Electroteks was incorporated in 1983. Its early work included local-loop multiplexing and signalling conversion equipment. The original company history reports more than 15,000 units installed around Sri Lanka by 1997.
In 1986 the company began designing and manufacturing TDM telex multiplexers. It went on to win a contract to supply Sri Lanka Telecom’s telex multiplex systems in an international tender. Related equipment was supplied to the Bangladesh Telephone & Telegraph Board.
Electroteks also helped pioneer radio-data-link banking automation. A 1988 pilot linked three Sampath Bank branches, followed by work that supported ATM and teller-terminal networks. The original company account says a World Bank consulting committee recommended Electroteks for a Bank of Ceylon installation in 1990.

Electroteks describes a communications portfolio spanning Internet, international voice and satellite television, with operations in Sri Lanka and historically in the USA, UK and India. Its research and development work produced routers, PABX systems and firewalls.
